About

by measuringcoastlines

It is pretty much impossible to precisely measure the actual length of a coastline. Mathematically, your results will vary wildly depending on the size of your measuring tool and how much detail you want to get into. Practically, waves and tides and sea levels and erosion are constantly changing the shape of the shore, so the bit you just measured probably just got bigger or smaller the moment you turned your back on it.

The human mind, once you start looking at it, has the same sort of complexity approaching infinity. You think you know something about yourself, or others, and then you look a little closer and realize that there’s more detail or you missed a spot. Or that just by looking at it long enough, it has changed before your eyes.

This blog is dedicated to the exploration both of all the fjords and coves and mountains of our physical world, and to the strange little nooks and crannies of our minds.
